Russell Crowe has opened up about the grief he’s endured from the <a href="https://www.oversixty.co.nz/lifestyle/family-pets/russell-crowe-loses-best-friend-in-tragic-accident" target="_blank" rel="noopener">death of his beloved puppy</a> Louis the Papillion. In an appearance on the Kyle & Jackie O Show, the actor introduced his new furry friend Ezekiel to the hosts, which was quickly met with the radio titans asking how he dealt with the loss of his other dog. "At first we were both like well he's irreplaceable, we can't get another puppy," Crowe said. "That was just a really difficult hole to fill.” "We put so much emotion into that little dog and then he died as tragically as he did," he continued. "The only way we could really stop that from being so harsh was to get another puppy.” Later in the interview, the star revealed that he had the dog flown over from South Australia to Sydney in a private jet. "I'm dealing with Britney whose level of grief was so deep that yeah I put her on a little jet and sent her to go see the dog, then she picked up the dog and came home," Crowe admitted of his girlfriend's pain. "I know it makes me look like a bit of a tosser but you know it's about 'what do I need to do right now to help Britney’." "I did it”: 59-year-old grandma finally scores dream Qantas job

A 59-year-old grandmother has gotten her big gig with Qantas after dreaming of being a flight attendant for about 40 years. Jackie Cookson is one of the airline’s latest recruits, having graduated on May 29, with her first flight scheduled for June 3. Cookson can now add flight attendant to her versatile resume, with her previously working as a travel agent, a receptionist on an oncology ward and a newspaper sales rep. The 59-year-old, who calls herself “crazy nana” has shared her journey on TikTok since her first interview with Qantas, through all the assessments and training and to her upcoming graduation. In January 2023, she posted her first video ahead of her first in-person interview with Qantas, which attracted more than half a million views, saying people might think she was crazy to apply given her age, but she was finally following her dreams. The grandmother-of-two revealed she had an interview at another airline when she was 20 years old but never went as she ended up getting married. “In my eyes then if you were married you couldn’t be cabin crew. How bloody stupid was that,” she said. She got the job and relocated from Perth to Sydney for her training. “Crazy nana is going to be a cabin crew, watch out!” she told her followers. Four months on saw Cookson standing proudly in her Qantas uniform, with her certificate in hand. “Can you believe it? Crazy nana’s gone and bloody done it, hasn’t she? I’ve passed, today I’ve graduated. I did it,” an elated Cookson said. “If I can do it, anyone else can do it. Follow your dreams. Don’t give up. Don’t be thinking ‘I’m too old’ or this or that. Look at me, I’ve got my wings.” Cookson, who is originally from England but has been living in Australia for about 30 years, told news.com.au that the older she got, the more she thought she may have missed her chance. “After Covid I took a year off and travelled the world, went back to see my 91-year-old dad in Yorkshire, and I applied while I was on holiday,” she said. “I haven’t studied for a long time, so it’s definitely been a challenge, but I put everything I’ve got into it and I’m thrilled to have gotten my wings. “I fly on my first flight to LA on Saturday. I’m nervous, like any first day on the job, but I know I’ll settle into it, but I’m mostly just really excited. Henry Ford II, the grandson of the founder of the Ford Motor Company, is one of the few famous people who have lived in the stunning two-storey estate known as Turville Grange. He purchased the home from former US President John F Kennedy’s sister-in-law, Princess Lee Radziwill in 1974. Among those who have lived in the beautiful home are President Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis - Radziwill’s sister, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild and Michael Caine The five-bedroom home located just an hour away from London has been constantly renovated over the years to help create an “ideal family home”. “This is bulls***”: Kyle hits out on censoring of Pauline Hanson

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson’s has sparked more controversy, after she was censored for attempting to undermine Australia’s vaccine rollout on one of Sydney’s biggest radio shows. Ms Hanson was sharing her anti-vaccination views on KIIS 106.5’s Kyle and Jackie O Show, when producers intervened and began censoring the audio mentioning vaccinating. While Ms Hanson was describing why she was choosing not to be vaccinated against COVID-19, all the audience could hear was a drawn-out “bleep”. The show is on a 30-second delay and has a censor to block any comments that can’t be verified live or that could cause trouble for the network. When callers alerted him to the censoring, host Kyle Sandilands had a strong reaction when he found out the reason behind it. “Can somebody tell me what’s being beeped out and why it’s being beeped out?”, Sandilands asked producers. “Our censor is saying some of what Pauline is saying is not government approved,” one producer replied. “We’re not a government show,” he said. “This is not the ABC.” The same producer told Sandilands the show has to “be mindful of what we’re telling listeners”. “Based on what?”, Sandilands queried. “[Based on] the public health system and what they’re telling us,” they replied. Sandilands then apologised to Ms Hanson, who said it wasn’t the first time she had been censored for her views on vaccinations. “I’ve been censored also by Channel Nine and 2GB because they won’t have me on because of what I say,” Hanson explained. “You can’t have a difference of opinion in this country anymore because they shut you down. So therefore you’re letting the authorities control what you say and think. “I’m a member of parliament, surely I have a right to actually express my opinion.” A spokeswoman for ARN, which represents the popular radio show, said the live to air censor “monitors all content and makes a decision on what is appropriate to be broadcast on air and be published in accordance with the station’s regulatory obligations”. “Kyle and Jackie O don’t shy away from talking about the hot topics that matter to their audience,” the spokeswoman told news.com.au. “KIIS1065 makes every effort to fairly represent the views of its guests but has an obligation to balance freedom of expression against expression of views that may be out of step with government health advice. “We take our responsibilities very seriously, and appreciate that some views expressed by guests on the station may not always be shared by the wider community.” ARN said the governing body for broadcast media, the Australian Communications and Media Authority, has a “focus on protecting the Australian public from misinformation about COVID-19 and information that is out of step with government advice.” Pauline Hanson’s claim on the show that COVID-19 vaccines haven’t been tried and tested like those for diseases such as measles and mumps is unfounded. According to National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance’s (NCIRS) <a rel="noopener" href="https://www.ausvaxsafety.org.au/safety-data/covid-19-vaccines" target="_blank">AusVaxSafety</a> surveillance initiative, 53.9 percent of Australians who have been vaccinated reported no adverse event, while 46.1 percent reported adverse side effects including fatigue, headaches, injection site pain, and muscle aches. Hollywood A-lister made Hugh Jackman clean up vomit in his trailer

The Hollywood star wasn’t happy when Hugh Jackman’s best mate since kindergarten – Gus Worland - vomited in his trailer and he made the Aussie actor clean it up. Worland recapped the whole story on KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show today and then he challenged listeners to call in and guess who the Hollywood star was. The incident happened in the earlier days of Jackman’s career when Worland was visiting Jackman on a movie set. One of Jackman’s co-stars invited them both to have a drink in his “much bigger trailer”. Worland said he walked into the trailer “… and it’s got a Cuban cigar in each corner with a cigar cutter … and there’s a tub of drinks and stuff.” “We sit down and start having a conversation and I’m struggling to get the words out because I’m so excited that I’m in his company,” Worland said about Jackman’s co-star. Worland’s nerves got the better of him and he said he was “drinking a little bit too quickly” and he found himself not feeling well, he said on the radio show. “Jacko’s looking at me going: ‘Are you OK, mate?’ I said, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine.” But he wasn’t. He added: “I’m smoking this cigar, I’m drinking these drinks and I’m hammered within an hour. I just go, ‘Oh no, I can’t hold this.’ I tried to shimmy out of the horseshoe [table] set up … which is a difficult thing to do … and I don’t quite get to the door of the trailer and I throw up everywhere.” Worland said that Jackman found it fairly funny but the other celebrity didn’t have the same sense of humour about the situation and he told Jackman he’d have to clean the whole thing up. “That takes Jacko about 20 minutes,” Worland recalled. Kyle Sandilands asked Worland: “He got Hugh Jackman to mop up your chunder?” “Yeah,” Worland said. So, who was the Hollywood A-lister who wasn’t impressed? Eventually a listener called through with the right answer – it was John Travolta and it was when Travolta and Jackman were filming Swordfish. "Stop It!": Nat Barr shuts down Kyle on live TV

Sunrise host Nat Barr told off Kyle Sandilands during his appearance on the breakfast show this morning. Making a guest appearance on the show to celebrate his radio show with Jackie ‘O’ Henderson claiming the title of Sydney’s number one breakfast show in ratings for the first time, the controversial shock jock got a strong reaction when he started joking about Nat’s husband. After chatting about their latest success, Kyle pulled out a copy of Nat Barr’s cover of The Australian Women’s Weekly to show her. “Look what I’m reading Nat,” he said, with Nat replying, “that’s so nice Kyle!”. Kyle then went on to compliment Nat on her sons. “These are good looking boys,” he said. “Just by looking at the photos, I can tell what a great mum you are. Those kids, they look at you with adoring eyes. I admire that.” After Nat admitted the photoshoot was a bit “scary” as they had never done anything like that before, Kyle asked why her husband wasn’t included. “Where’s your husband? How come he’s been kept out?” the 50-year-old asked. “He won’t do anything,” Nat said. “He hates publicity … He’s got his own life and his own job. He’s like, yeah, leave that to you.” Nat has been married to her husband, Andrew Thompson, who is an Oscar-nominated film editor, since 1995. “I think press media should track down what Nat’s husband’s doing,” Kyle quipped. “Let’s do a whole exposé on a day in the life of Nat’s husband.” Nat went from laughing as she had throughout the segment, to raising her finger and giving the radio host a strict warning. “Kyle, I’m going to go all mum on you,” she said. “Stop it.” Earlier in the show, Kyle had explained why he thinks he and Jackie have been performing so well lately. “We’ve been doing radio a bit different to everyone else,” he said. “Everyone else has the same rule: Speak for three minutes, have a little laugh at the end and play the ad break. “We’ve changed it. After spending months defending Meghan Markle, radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has declared she is now “anti-Meghan Markle”. Getting into a discussion about the royals with her KIIS FM co-host Kyle Sandilands on Thursday, the 46-year-old admitted her change of heart. “The more I sit back and think about it, the more I don’t like what happened there,” she said about the Duchess’ Oprah interview. The conversation started with the hosts talking about Prince Harry’s latest chat with Oprah for his documentary The Me You Can’t See. “Remember when we thought Harry was going to get with Britney Spears?” Kyle asked, referring to rumours swirling when the prince was a teenager. “Well, I think he’s gone the wrong way anyway. I think he’s made a mistake with Meghan,” Jackie replied. She said she turned on Meghan after she alleged Kate Middleton “made her cry” at her wedding during the Oprah interview. “I thought she threw Kate under the bus in that interview. I thought that was really unnecessary,” she said. While Jackie admitted that Kate might have been acting like a “b**ch”, she disliked that Meghan mentioned it after the pair had moved on. “Well you know what, don’t throw her under the bus, because it’s unnecessary! Like she even said, ‘I don’t dislike Kate, she apologised,’ so really … “The more I sit back and think about that interview, the more I don’t like what happened there,” she continued. “I don’t know. I’m torn. I think they should be able to say what they want, but I just didn’t like what Meghan said about Kate.”

Just like Jackie O! Princess Mary pulls off classically beautiful lady-like look

Princess Mary has attended the official opening of the Danish Parliament, alongside her husband and mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe. The 37-year-old royal was dressed in a stunning rose-coloured pink coat by Danish-Dutch designer Claes Iversen. To add to the look, she added a matching pillbox hat and burgundy heels, as well as gloves and clutch. The classic outfit was reminiscent of American First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, who perfected the look in the 1960s. This isn’t the first time the royal has worn the stunning coat and hat and was last seen wearing the fitting outfit during a royal visit to Latvia in December 2018. The Australian-born royal attended the highly publicised event alongside her husband, Crown Prince Frederik and the Queen’s sister, Princess Benedikte. Princess Mary performed a perfect curtsy to the monarch as she arrived at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen who responded by affectionately greeting her daughter-in-law. The opening of parliament is a tradition which is upheld by the Danish royals annually, where they listen to the Prime Minister's speech, heralding a new year of politics. Jackie Kennedy’s stunning Martha Vineyard estate has been listed for an eye watering $65 million. Jackie purchased the expansive 340-acre oceanfront property, known as Red Gate Farm, in 1979. The main residence alone is a whopping 5,456-square foot property and boasts five en-suite bedrooms, two “powder” rooms as well as a chef’s kitchen. The home also included a chef’s kitchen and the property also has a two-story guest home with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The property has been listed by the celebrity’s oldest daughter, Caroline Kennedy who said: “Forty years ago, my mother fell in love with Martha’s Vineyard.” "When she found Red Gate Farm, it was a perfect expression of her romantic and adventurous spirit. The dunes and ponds and rolling hills of Aquinnah gave her the chance to create a world where she could be so close to nature, close to her family and friends, and, most importantly, close to her beloved books. Ted Kennedy car crash scandal that killed Mary Jo Kopechne: Letter exposes new claims

After 50 years, the Ted Kennedy Chappaquiddick incident has remained one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the Kennedy family. The car crash on the US island ended the life of 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne and derailed Ted Kennedy’s presidential chances. On the evening of July 18, 1969, the then US senator Kennedy hosted a party on the small island for the Boiler Room Girls, a group of six women who had worked on his brother Robert F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign the year before. One of the women was 28-year-old Kopechne. Despite extensive reports on the incident, details of the events of the night have remained shrouded. Kennedy reportedly left the party with Kopechne, even though she did not bring her purse or hotel room key with her. The two drove off in his 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88. Kennedy said the car went over the bridge into Poucha Pond after he made a wrong turn. The letter, recently revealed by <a href="https://people.com/politics/ted-kennedy-chappaquiddick-car-accident-50-years-later/">PEOPLE</a>’s Cover-Up podcast, came from a man who claimed to have met a woman who had attended the party the night Kopechne died. The woman, referred to as “Betty”, said Kopechne had had too much to drink at the event. Betty then brought Kopechne to Kennedy’s car to rest, and then went back to the cottage. The letter claimed that Kennedy and another female guest went for a drive in the car. When the sedan plunged into the water, Kennedy and the passenger survived and returned to the party, unaware that Kopechne had been in the vehicle all along. Betty shared the story, and the letter said that was when “…the Kennedy damage control machine kicked in and informed the shocked senator.” After receiving the letter in 2018, Kopechne’s cousin Georgetta Potoski said the full story might not yet be revealed. “I’m not convinced the mystery has been solved,” she told PEOPLE. “I know there are things that we do not know about what happened that night. The truth, even if it’s not what you want to hear, at least has some dignity around it. “I don’t think there will ever be justice for the loss of her life. [But] I think the truth would make our hearts rest easier.” A week after the incident, Kennedy pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of the accident and was given a two-month suspended sentence. Later on the same day, he gave a national broadcast statement in which he said, “I regard as indefensible the fact that I did not report the accident to the police immediately.” Kennedy, who was preparing for his presidential run, delayed his campaign until 1980. His run for the country’s top office was unsuccessful, but he continued to be re-elected as senator seven more times until his death in 2009. In his posthumously published memoir True Compass, Kennedy described the incident as “a horrible tragedy that haunts me every day of my life”.

In the last few days, the US President Donald Trump has made a couple of outlandish statements, from calling Prince Charles the “Prince of Whales,” to claiming Queen Elizabeth had the most fun she’d had in 25 years when he visited Her Majesty during his trip to the UK. His most recent statement about his wife Melania Trump, however, has sparked a furious response online. In a recent interview with Fox & Friends, the 72-year-old US leader compared Melania to one of America’s most beloved former first ladies, Jackie Kennedy Onassis. “We have our own Jackie O today,” he said. “It's called Melania. “We'll call it Melania T.” The statement was not received so well with a number of online users, taking to Twitter to voice their displeasure. “Melania is no Jackie O,” one comment read. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"> Jackie O was the epitome of grace & beauty. “The happiest man alive”: Never-before-seen footage of JFK Jr’s secret wedding

Viewers will be able to get a glimpse into the secret wedding of John F Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette later this year thanks to a new special. The special, which was first announced in 2018, will share footage shot by Kennedy’s friend during his wedding to Bessette in 1996 on Cumberland Island in Georgia. “On an island off of Georgia we came together on this 18th century plantation. In this dirty, dilapidated, shuttered church next to a pig sty,” a friend says in the preview. “No air conditioning, very little power on the island. Speaking to <a rel="noopener" href="https://people.com/" target="_blank">People</a> magazine in 2018, John Jr’s former assistant RoseMarie Terenzino said that the former bachelor was kept on his toes as Carolyn didn’t immediately agree to tie the knot. “He went into this thing about how everything’s better with a partner, not just fishing but life,” she said. But despite his determination, Carolyn found the fame that came with being John Jr's partner to be daunting. “She held off the proposal for about three weeks. I think it made him all the more intent on marrying her,” said Terenzino. They eventually married one another in a private ceremony, but the happiness was short-lived as three years later, the pair were killed in a plane crash as they travelled to the same island where John Jr first popped the question. The tragedy occurred on July 16, 1999 as the couple and John Jr’s sister-in-law Lauren were en route to the wedding of his cousin Rory, with John Jr flying the plane. They never made it. It was later revealed that extreme weather conditions caused the plane to crash, claiming all three lives. Their lives were cut short, during a period where the couple were still very much in love. “To say their relationship was on the rocks is just inaccurate,” said Carole Radziwill, the former wife of John Jr’s cousin Anthony Radziwill. “They loved each other – Carolyn was quite the loveable person. “She was clever, she was naughty and she had the balance of being able to be really serious and deep yet funny.” She went on to say: “I still miss her after all these years.”

Inside Jackie Kennedy’s turbulent relationship with sister Lee Radziwill

Lee Radziwill, who passed away on February 16, left incredible legacies as a socialite, interior designer, public relations executive and style icon, but most remember her as the sister of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Despite her independent achievements, Lee still could not escape comparisons with her older sibling. Following Lee’s death at 85 years old on Friday, the <a rel="noopener" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/16/obituaries/lee-radziwill-dead.html" target="_blank">New York Times</a> published an obituary that described her as a woman who "made several attempts for professional recognition, but achieved only pale reflections of the spotlight of her sister". Their relationship has long been scrutinised, but most observers agreed that the two had a turbulent bond. "It was never sort of black and white," J. Randy Taraborrelli, biographer and author of Jackie, Janet & Lee, told <a rel="noopener" href="https://people.com/politics/jackie-kennedy-relationship-sister-lee-radziwill-photos/?did=342654-20190220&utm_campaign=people-news_newsletter&utm_source=people.com&utm_medium=email&utm_content=022019&cid=342654&mid=18718959574" target="_blank">People</a>. "There were always shades of grey, and when you try to paint that relationship with a wide brushstroke it never works because there were times when they were very close." The 'competition' between the sisters began in childhood, when it became apparent to Lee that her parents were more inclined towards their oldest daughter. In her 2000 book Happy Times, Lee said their father, John Vernou Bouvier III "favoured Jackie … That was very clear to me, but I didn't resent it, because I understood he had reason to … she was not only named after him … but she actually looked almost exactly like him, which was a source of great pride to my father." Their mother, Janet Norton Lee, showed a similar preference. "My mother endlessly told me I was too fat, that I wasn't a patch on my sister," Lee told <a rel="noopener" href="https://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/02/07/the-real-lee-radziwill/" target="_blank">T: The New York Times Magazine</a> in 2013. "It wasn't much fun growing up with her and her almost irrational social climbing in that huge house of my dull stepfather Hughdie Auchincloss in Washington." In their early adulthood, Lee beat Jackie to the altar when she married publishing scion Michael Temple Canfield at the age of 20. However, within two months of Lee's marriage, Jackie upstaged her by getting engaged to John F Kennedy, then a senator-to-be from an established and wealthy family. Taraborrelli said Kennedy’s election to presidency in 1960 marked a new stage in the sibling rivalry. "Who's going to be more popular? Who's going to be in more magazines? All of that suddenly came to a crashing halt when Jackie became first lady … Lee [said], 'How can I compete with that?' How do you compete with that?" The sisters' cousin John H Davies wrote in the 1969 book The Bouviers that Jackie’s new connection to the White House exacerbated Lee’s identity crisis as her sister. "Although she was abundantly gifted herself … she had often been obscured by the shadow of her sister’s prominence, and now that shadow threatened to eclipse her identity," Davies wrote. Taraborrelli said Lee "had so defined herself as being in competition with Jackie that when finally there was no competition, she didn’t even know who she was. Then that marked a new era for Lee Radziwill. That's when she decided, 'I've got to do something.'" Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Lee made new friends and ventured into new fields on her own, including acting and interior decorating. However, within weeks of President JFK’s death in 1963, Lee was also the one who stayed as a pillar of support for her grieving sister. According to Jackie’s secret service agent Clint Hill, Lee did "everything she could to support her sister" and “remained with us pretty much during that entire time until Mrs Kennedy and the children moved out of the White House". "It's just the most ludicrous talk in the world that we’re rivals," Lee told <a rel="noopener" href="https://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a26414276/lee-radziwill-support-jackie-kennedy-jfk-assassination/" target="_blank">People</a> in 1976. "We're exceptionally close and always have been. We’re together very often. In fact, endlessly." According to <a rel="noopener" href="https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2016/04/jackie-kennedy-lee-radziwill-sisterhood" target="_blank">Vanity Fair</a>, when Jackie fell ill with cancer in 1994, Lee rushed to her side. Lee was also present the day before Jackie passed, when she was still in coma. However, Jackie still left Lee out of her will. She granted her holdings and bequests for her children, family and friends while giving nothing for Lee. Jackie reportedly wrote, "I have made no provision in this, my will, for my sister, Lee B. Radziwill, for whom I have great affection, because I have already done so during my lifetime." Taraborrelli said of the sisters: "They were rivals, but also confidantes. In a way, they could understand each other in a way no one else could."

On Saturday, the Kennedy family gathered at their estate on Cape Cod to watch as Robert F Kennedy III wed former CIA operative Amaryllis Fox. The namesake grandson of the famed politician, who was assassinated 50 years ago, tied the knot at the family’s compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. “You may kiss the bride! Hurray Bobby and Amarillis!” Kerry Kennedy, the daughter of Ethel and Robert F. Kennedy, wrote on Instagram. The groom wore a blue and green floral tuxedo with white pants for the non-traditional wedding, while the bride wore an off-the-shoulder gown with a crown. The Kennedy scandal the world forgot about

After Bobby Kennedy was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel in 1968, Joseph Kennedy only had one son left: Ted. Senator Ted Kennedy had many heavy expectations to carry and after one fatal car crash on Chappaquiddick Island in 1969, protecting his presidential prospects was key. Known as the Chappaquiddick incident, the car Ted was driving flipped off a bridge and crashed into water – which killed his 28-year-old passenger Mary Jo Kopechne, who was trapped in the fully-submerged vehicle. The incident is marked by inconsistencies, cover-ups and smoke screens surrounding the events that occurred before and after the crash. Now, the first non-documentary film based on the event Chappaquiddick has been released. Although it is the Kennedy scandal that is usually forgotten, the incident was believed to have influenced Ted’s decision not to campaign for President in 1972 and 1976. The incident also added to the myth of the so-called “Kennedy Curse”. Australian actor Jason Clarke plays Ted Kennedy in the movie, which shows Kennedy hosting a party on Chappaquiddick Island for the “Boiler Rooms Girls” who worked for Bobby Kennedy’s presidential campaign. Guests attending the party include Mary Jo Kopechne, Kennedy cousin Joe Gargan and Massachusetts US Attorney Paul Markham. Kennedy and Kopechne leave the party where the incident unfolds as his car veers off the bridge. After Kennedy swam to safety, he didn’t report the incident for nine hours. The film follows Ted’s struggle to make sense of the family expectation that is upon him by his father and his moral code. Last night, Meghan Markle shined in the spotlight as she attended a Commonwealth women’s empowerment reception at the Royal Aeronautical Society with Prince Harry. The bride-to-be wore a “Jackie O” dress from Black Halo, which is inspired by the iconic First Lady. She paired the classic dress with a pair of 18kt white gold and diamond earrings from Canadian jeweller Birks. She said she watched me give my speech. Why Bobby Kennedy’s widow Ethel still stands by her man

Ethel Kennedy celebrates her 90th birthday today. This year also marks 50 years since her husband Robert, better known as Bobby, died. But in the decades that have followed his death, there is no doubt Ethel is as wedded to the Kennedy clan as ever. The year was 1945 when a then Ethel Skakel and her friend Jean Kennedy went on a skiing holiday to Mont Tremblant Resort in Quebec. The tension was only relieved when the couple went on overseas trips as representatives of the president. But in November 1963, Ethel answered a phone call from J. Edgar Hoover. He informed Bobby that John had been assassinated. Bobby considered running for vice president or even president in the 1964 election, but eventually decided to run for the US Senate for the seat of New York. He won. In June 1968 Bobby was assassinated in Los Angeles while campaigning for the Democratic nomination for the presidency. Ethel was pregnant with their 11th child at the time. She coped with life after Bobby by focusing on looking after her large family. Vowing never to marry again, she also threw herself into keeping her husband’s legacy alive. <img width="463" height="347" src="https://cdn.newsapi.com.au/image/v1/ed2c66501891f3bba871a706a0a9a446?width=1024" class="tge-imagecaption_img" style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"/> In 1968 she established the Robert F. Kennedy Centre for Justice and Human Rights. She spent much of her time doing work to raise money for its many charitable causes. But tragedy continued to follow her – two of her sons died in the intervening years. After Rose, the matriarch of the Kennedy clan, died, Ethel took on more of that role. She was prominent among the mourners at the funerals of Jack’s son John F. Kennedy Jr in 1999 and Bobby’s brother Ted Kennedy in 2009. Ethel also took on more of a political role, endorsing Barack Obama at the 2008 election. In 2014 Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her tireless efforts in her many social justice causes. The Kennedy name lives on in politics with her grandson, Joe Kennedy III, currently serving as the US representative from Massachusetts 4th District.
